Clarke Memorial Fountain ("Stonehenge")
Clarke Memorial Fountain, also known as the "Stonehenge," was dedicated in 1986 in memory of all those Notre Dame graduates who had given their lives in service to our country. Specifically, the memorial honors the sacrifice of the about 500 Notre Dame almumni who died in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Each trilith stands facing one of the cardinal directions with a fountain between its two posts. Each of the wars are engraved on the lintels on their front-facing sides. Within the memorial's center, another fountain sits atop a sphere, representing the Earth. Every Veterans Day, students from each ROTC branch stand watch by each post.
